The ancient saying "As above, so below" reflects the cosmic influence manifested by the planets and the Lunar Nodes within our lives. Many astrological teachings connect this cosmic influence with the bodily energetic systems known as the Chakras.

The seven main chakras are located along the spinal column (sushumna nadi) have a correspondence with the seven planets that can be seen by the naked eye and the North/South Lunar Nodes. These nodes represent the astronomical intersection between the orbits of the Sun, Moon and the Earth thereby symbolising the fusion between the solar/lunar energies.

The South Lunar Node has an astrological correspondence with our past habits, psychological behaviours and in some esoteric schools reflects our past lives. This South Node is usually associated with the first and second chakras. The North Lunar Node symbolises our evolutionary future potential and is usually associated with the sixth and seventh chakras.

The chakra energetic pathways begin at the base of the spine and ascend to the crown of the head. Feminine energy ascends and masculine energy descends in a continual flow from first chakra to the seventh chakra and back again. A balancing unification between these two energies manifests in a healthy balance between our negotiation of daily life and the manifestation of our evolutionary, spiritual desires within this lifetime. The mystics refer to this unification as "achieving a peace of mind".

Difficulties in our lives and challenges with our health can arise when blockages occur within the chakras. Clues about these difficulties/challenges may be found within the placement of the planets within our natal birth chart and the movement of these planets as we journey through life.

Esoteric teachings suggest the following cosmic connections with the chakras. Natal chart placements and difficult aspects with other planets/lunar nodes will suggest areas of potential difficulties/challenges.

  • Base chakra (Muladhara) is located at the base of the spine. It is associated with the planet Saturn and the zodiac signs of Capricorn and Aquarius and the South Lunar Node. Esoterically the combined association is with our survival, stability and our will to live.
  • Second chakra (Svadhisthana) is located around the navel. It is associated with the planet Jupiter and the zodiac signs of Sagittarius and Pisces and the South Lunar Node. Esoterically the combined associated is with our sexuality and pleasure principle together with how we interact with others.
  • Third chakra (Manipura) is located within the solar plexus area of the body. It is associated with Mars and the zodiac signs of Aries and Scorpio. Esoterically the combined association is with the development of our ego, self-esteem, vitality and willpower.
  • Fourth chakra (Anahata) is located at the heart. It is associated with Venus and the zodiac signs of Taurus and Libra. Esoterically the combined association is with our development of compassion, empathy, love and forgiveness. Indian wisdom maintains that is chakra acts as a bridge between the first three physical chakras and the last three spiritual chakras. Achieving a balance within Anahata encourages the flow of energies between our physical and spiritual selves.
  • Fifth chakra (Vishuddi) is located at the throat. It is associated with Mercury and the zodiac signs of Gemini and Virgo. Esoterically the combined association is with self-expression and our communicative ability.
  • Sixth chakra is (Ajna) located at the centre of the forehead and is associated with the Moon, the zodiac sign of Cancer and the Lunar North Node. Esoterically the combined association relates to the mind and the higher functions of consciousness. Some astrologers also associate the planet Uranus and the zodiac sign of Aquarius to this chakra.
  • Seventh chakra (Sahasrara) is located at the crown of the head is associated with the Sun, the zodiac sign of Leo and the Lunar North Node. Some astrologers also associate Neptune and Pisces to this chakra. Esoterically the combined association relates to self-realisation and enlightenment.

Kate Nirlipta is an inspiring beautiful teacher, she taught me how to balance my unbalanced guna's, she gave encouragement with her compassion and I had special emotional moment through her session class. Thank you for guiding me to understand the "Svadhyaya" and the yoga lifestyle about "cleaning the mirror" and "spreading the light". Always love her meditation, relaxation and evening activity. Love the healing power of song "I am the light of my soul" every time I hear the song my heart & soul feels like a blooming lotus flower. I feel so blessed to have you as my teacher and you have helped me to spread my wings…absolutely transforming. Terima kasih banyak ibu cantik. Love always

I am delighted to recommend Kate Nirlipta to anyone at all who is interested in experiencing heart based wisdom through embodied yoga. She is simply the best yoga teacher I have been fortunate enough to learn from. Her approach remains influential in my own practice and teaching. Kate first inspired me fifteen years ago to practice yoga. I was an ex dance teacher still grappling with issues resulting from a car accident and a crushed T12. Her sensitive and knowledgable teaching helped me discover a new way of experiencing my self and my body and began my love affair with the transformative power of yoga on all levels. She also introduced me to the incredible practice of Yoga Nidra . Last year in 2012 I attended a yoga teacher training intensive in Bali largely for the opportunity to again learn from Kate. Her mastery as a teacher and her heart felt warmth and compassion was acknowledged and highly valued by all in the course who were wide ranging in age and cultural backgrounds. She embodies her teaching and has encouraged us all to find our own authentic way to do this in our practice and the classes we offer. I'm deeply grateful for the opportunity to learn from her and would encourage anyone of any age or experience to take to opportunity to learn from this outstanding teacher.

I love yoga with Kate! Yoga day is my favourite day of the week, a special time I dedicate to myself.
Kate has shown me that yoga is so much more than postures and stretches. Her knowledge and experience is shared gently with love and kindness. The Breathing Space studio is filled with loving, healing energy. Natural light floods the room, the birds sing in the garden and the ocean waves area gentle sigh in the distance. A very special place to practice yoga and meditation.
I feel blessed to have found Kate and her classes. Her yoga is the real deal, truly a mind, body and spirit experience. Thank you Kate.
